Five days of festivities and visits in six counties are planned for June 16 to 20 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Rt. Rev. Frederick H. Borsch as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.

Consecrated bishop in June 1988, the 62-year-old Borsch will follow an itinerary designed to highlight his commitment to social causes. He will meet with youths, tour local parishes and inspect a new health center in Fontana named after his family. Borsch also will visit a diocesan home for children in Pasadena, a community soup kitchen in Santa Barbara, a residence for mentally ill homeless people in Orange and low-cost apartments built by Project New Hope, a nonprofit agency connected with the diocese that serves people who have AIDS or are HIV-positive.

Borsch is also known for his advocacy of urban social justice issues. He joined with clergy of other denominations and faiths to win county approval of an anti-gang program and enactment of a so-called living wage ordinance in Los Angeles requiring businesses that contract with the city to pay workers more than minimum wage.

Borsch is a New Testament scholar, author and former dean of the chapel at Princeton University and of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley.

The week will be capped next Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with a celebration and liturgy at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park Ave., Los Angeles. Details of the bishop’s itinerary are available by calling the Cathedral Center at (213) 482-2040, Ext. 220, or at the diocesan Web site: https://www.ladiocese.org
