FIRST TEAM

EBONI GRAYSON

Taft, Senior

100 meters

Triple jump

* City Section champion in the 100, 200 and triple jump placed sixth in the 100 and ninth in the triple jump in the state championships. She ranks eighth on the all-time region performer list in the 100 at 11.95 seconds and third in the triple jump at 39 feet 6 inches.

SIERRA HAUSER-PRICE

Notre Dame, Freshman

200 meters

* Hauser-Price capped a sensational first track season by finishing sixth in the state championships with a school record of 23.99 to move into seventh on the all-time region list. She placed second in the Southern Section Division III final and fourth in the Southern Section Masters Meet.

JAYDA BAILEY

Taft, Sophomore

400 meters

* Bailey missed the first half of the season because she was academically ineligible, but won the City title in a school-record 54.20 and placed seventh in the state championships. She ranks sixth on the all-time region list.

TARA GREGORY

Crescenta Valley, Senior

800 meters

* The Vanderbilt-bound Gregory placed seventh in the state championships after running a school-record 2:13.57 in her qualifying heat. She finished third in the Masters Meet and fourth in the Southern Section Division I final after missing most of the 1997 season because of an ankle injury.

LAUREN FLESHMAN

Canyon, Junior

1,600 meters, 3,200 meters

* Fleshman won the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Southern Section Division I championships. She won the 3,200 in the Masters Meet and placed fourth in the state championships. She ran a school record of 4:58.54 in the 1,600 and a season best of 10:38.65 in the 3,200.

FRANCES SANTIN

Taft, Senior

100-meter high hurdles

300-meter low hurdles

* The region’s track athlete of the year won the 300 lows and placed second in the 100 highs in the City meet before finishing fifth in the lows and ninth in the highs in the state championships. Her best of 42.63 in the lows ranks third on the all-time region list and she ran 14.73 in the highs.

1,600-meter relay

* The Toreadors won City titles in both events before being slowed by injury and illness at the state championships. The foursome of seniors Frances Santin and Eboni Grayson and sophomores Jayda Bailey and Deneeka Torrey clocked 46.29 in the 400 relay in the City meet to move to second on the all-time region list. Santin, Bailey, Torrey and junior Tiffany Smith ran a season best of 3:50.82 in a qualifying heat of the state championships to move to eighth on the all-time region list.

SCHQUAY BRIGNAC

Cleveland, Freshman

High jump

* Brignac placed fourth in the state meet in June, won the City championships in May and the Mt. San Antonio College Relays and Arcadia Invitational in April. Her season best of 5-9 tied for ninth on the all-time region list.

BRIDGET PEARSON

Hoover, Junior

Pole vault

* Pearson, 1997 state champion, was bothered by a sore lower back throughout the season, but placed second in the Southern Section Division I championships and Masters Meet and seventh in the state meet.

PORCHEA CARROLL

Rio Mesa, Freshman

Long jump

* Channel League champion placed third in Ventura County championships and fourth in Southern Section Division II finals. Her 18-7 was best in the region this year.

JESSICA COSBY

Granada Hills, Sophomore

Shotput

* Although she seldom competed in invitationals, Cosby won her second consecutive City title and placed fifth in the state championships. Her school record of 45-4 ranks seventh on the all-time region list.

ANGELA FOSTER

Ventura, Senior

Discus

* The Ventura County and Channel League champion set a school record of 132-6 and had three meets over 130 feet and six meets over 125 feet this season.

SECOND TEAM

SIERRA HAUSER-PRICE

Notre Dame, Freshman

100 meters

* Hauser-Price ran a wind-aided 11.86 to place eighth in the state championships after setting a school record of 11.98 in her qualifying heat. That time moved her into a tie for 10th on the all-time region list.

200 meters

* Grayson ran a wind-aided 24.12 to win her second consecutive City title, but withdrew from the state final with an ankle injury. She had a season best of 24.34.

MALINDA MALONE

Cleveland, Sophomore

400 meters

* Malone ran a school record of 55.44 to place second in the City championships. She reached the final of state championships, but missed the race because she arrived late at Cerritos College after being involved in a minor traffic accident on the way to the stadium.

800 meters

* Fleshman ran in only one major meet in this event, but her 2:11.87 clocking won the Mt. SAC Relays and moved her to 10th on the all-time region list.

ELAINE CANCHOLA

Nordhoff, Senior

1,600 meters, 3,200 meters

* A cold hindered Canchola’s performances at the state championships, but she won her second consecutive title in the 1,600 in the Masters Meet and in the 3,200 in the Southern Section Division III final.

BECKY RAUTH

Harvard-Westlake, Junior

100-meter high hurdles

300-meter low hurdles

* Rauth clocked 15.0 in the 100 highs and 44.01 in the 300 lows. The latter time placed her fourth in the Masters Meet and came six days after she ran 44.04 for second in the Southern Section Division III final.

1,600-meter relay

* The foursome of freshman Sierra Hauser-Price, junior Tiffany Thompson and seniors Stephanie Werth and Melissa Rubey ran school records of 47.65 in the 400 relay and 3:51.00 in the 1,600 relay. They finished sixth in the 400 relay and fourth in the 1,600 relay in the Masters Meet and were fifth in the 1,600 relay in the state championships. Their best in the 1,600 relay ranks ninth on the all-time region list.

Valencia, Sophomore

High jump

* Foster was upset by Camarillo sophomore Lisa Wygant and Simi Valley junior Anne-Marie Turpin in the Southern Section Division I championships, but she had a superior season. She cleared a school-record 5-8 to finish second at the Mt. SAC Relays.

HEATHER SICKLER

Camarillo, Senior

Pole vault

* Sickler failed to clear a height in six meets, including the Marmonte League finals, but she led the region this year at 11-8 and cleared 11-6 five other times.

JENNY KENYON

Newbury Park, Senior

Long jump

* The winner of the L.A. Invitational indoor meet in February won the Marmonte League title, finished second in the Ventura County championships and sixth in the Southern Section Division I final. She had a best of 18-3.

JENNY MYSZKOWSKI

Royal, Senior

Triple jump

* Myszkowski won her second consecutive titles in the Ventura County and Marmonte League championships and placed third in the Southern Section Division I final. She set a school record of 37-2 and bounded a wind-aided 38-0.

ANGELA FOSTER

Ventura, Senior

Shotput

* Foster won her third consecutive Channel League title and her second consecutive Ventura County championship before finishing third in the Southern Section Division II final--with a school record of 43-8--and sixth in the state meet.

DANIELLE BLAIR

Palmdale, Junior

Discus

* Golden League champion ranked sixth in the region this year, but she threw a career best of 116-11 to finish fifth in the Southern Section Division I final, two places ahead of Katy Savage of Valencia.
