Re “Sky’s the Limit in Heated Fight for County’s Fire Contracts,” June 21.
In appears that the “air vultures” are attempting to get at the trough again, and the mud is starting to fly. The facts are that all of the helicopters and SuperScoopers cannot stop a Santa Ana wind-driven fire! There is no “magic bullet.”
The only effective way to protect homes is to adhere to city and county of Los Angeles brush clearance requirements. That would save the taxpayers a lot of money.
I am quite sure that the political support for either the SuperScooper or the Erickson Air-Crane would wane if the hillside residents had to foot the bill.
