SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A man who apparently shot himself in the head while pistol-whipping the manager of a computer store during a holdup has died after being taken off a respirator.

Orange County Deputy Coroner William King said the man had been put on a respirator Sunday while authorities tried to locate his family. No one came forward, though, and doctors decided to take the man off life support because his condition had deteriorated.

The man still has not been identified.

Meanwhile, Fullerton police are asking for help identifying the man, whom they describe as an Asian in his late teens or early 20s with a large tattoo of a tiger on his right shoulder. The man was not carrying identification, and his fingerprints are not on record, Sgt. David Stanko said.

The man entered Level Computers Inc. on State College Boulevard on Friday about 6:20 p.m. along with two other men, Stanko said.

He said the robber was hitting the store manager with a handgun when the weapon apparently fired a bullet through the robber’s head. The manager and two other employees were treated for minor injuries.

The two accomplices, who fled the scene empty-handed, have not been located, Stanko said.

Anyone with information about the robber’s identity or the whereabouts of his accomplices is asked to call (714) 738-6715.
