An allegedly drunk motorist drove his car into an accident investigation scene in Azusa, killing one woman and injuring her daughter and two police officers, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, as an Azusa police officer and a California Highway Patrol officer were investigating an accident on East Sierra Madre Avenue, CHP Officer Karen Faciane said.

The mother and daughter--ages 54 and 25--and the officers were standing behind a parked Ford Taurus at the side of the road when a pickup truck crossed the double-yellow line and smashed into the front end of the Taurus, Faciane said.

The Taurus rammed all four people, sending them through a barbed-wire fence, she said.

The two women were taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where the mother died, Faciane said. Their names were not released.

The 25-year-old was in fair condition with head and ankle injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Azusa Police Sgt. Ray Zamora and CHP officer Craig Stevens were treated and released. Stevens suffered a broken leg, Faciane said.

The driver of the truck, Keith Cook, 32, of Azusa, suffered a cut above his eye. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, Faciane said.
