El Camino Real Earns First Win of Season

Conor Jackson tripled home the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored on Kurt Birkins’ single to give El Camino Real High its first victory, 3-2, over Harvard-Westlake on Saturday in the San Fernando Valley Invitational at Franklin Field in Encino.

Ryan Gunchas relieved in the first inning for the Conquistadores and threw five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Adam Sperling (1-0) went the final two innings for El Camino Real (1-4), allowing one hit and no runs.

John Neyer hit a two-run double for the Wolverines (2-3).

Adam Siegel of Harvard-Westlake had a no-hitter for 5 1/3 innings and allowed one hit in six innings before being relieved.

In other San Fernando Valley Invitational games:

Thousand Oaks 3, Kennedy 0--Matt Rogers (2-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, and Billy Lockin had a double and drove in a run for the Lancers (5-0) at Thousand Oaks.

Westlake 17, Franklin 0--The Warriors (3-2) had nine extra-base hits, including home runs by Ryan Cope and Brian Bladen, at Westlake High.

Bladen went three for three with four runs batted in and Cope had two hits and three RBIs. Mickey Brin had two doubles and five RBIs.

North Hollywood 9, Antelope Valley 5--Jerrit Redlich had two hits, including a home run, and drove three runs, and Ismael Rangsiyawong had a single, home run and two RBIs to help the Huskies (2-2) win at North Hollywood.

In the Westside tournament:

Camarillo 7, Notre Dame 6--Jay Caligiuri hit his third home run for the Scorpions (4-1) and Geoff Abbott earned his first save in the third-place game of Red Division at Notre Dame.

Alec Moss pulled the Knights (3-2) to within 7-6 with a three-run home run in the sixth, but Abbott got the final two outs.

Rio Mesa 11, Loyola 1--Greg Ramirez (1-1) scattered seven hits and struck out 11, and had two hits to drive in four runs for the Spartans (4-1) at Rio Mesa.

Buena 5, Moorpark 4--Nathan Pierce (1-0) scattered four hits over 5 1/3 innings, and Kurt Probasco hit his fourth home run in the Bulldogs’ victory at Buena (3-2).

Luis Probasco hit two solo home runs for Moorpark (2-3).

Hueneme 13, Saugus 3--Chris Neri had three hits and three RBIs, and Matt Avila added a single, a home run and three RBIs for the Vikings (4-1) at Hueneme.

In the El Segundo tournament:

Crespi 11, Westminster 2--Tim Leveque (1-0) pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts to help the Celts (4-0-1) win the third-place game at Valley College.

Agoura 9, El Segundo 8--Jeff Gould’s single drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in a seven-run sixth-inning to give the Chargers (4-1) fifth place at El Segundo.

Simi Valley 3, Gahr 2--Brandon Voorhees hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie for the Pioneers (4-1) in the ninth-place game at Simi Valley.

In other games:

Valencia 4-1, La Habra 2-0--John Kelley (1-0) pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and Brady Burrill singled home Sean Silveri with the only run of the second game to give the Vikings a sweep at La Habra.
