Two Men Dead After Drive-By Shootings

Unrelated drive-by shootings in Santa Ana and Anaheim left two 20-year-old men dead Saturday night.

In Santa Ana, police received a report of gunshots and arrived at 9:17 p.m. in the 800 block of East Beverly Place. Officers arrived to find a car stopped at the intersection with Standard Avenue.

The engine was running, the stereo was on and Andres Espinoza, of Santa Ana was slumped in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to the upper torso, said Sgt. Jack Rife.

Witnesses told police that another car had pulled up behind Espinoza’s, and a man got out, walked up to Espinoza’s car and fired several rounds with a handgun before fleeing.

Police have no one in custody. Investigators believe the incident was gang-related.

Meanwhile, Anaheim police were called to UCI Medical Center emergency room to investigate a report of a shooting victim. Jaime Navarette, of Anaheim died from a gunshot wound to the face.

Navarette and several friends were driving southbound on Euclid Street near Cerritos Avenue when someone in a small, darker vehicle driving alongside opened fire, the friends told investigators.

Navarette’s friends rushed him to the hospital. No suspects have been identified and a motive is unknown, police said.
