YEAR: Sophomore
CAREER AT A GLANCE: Herbert, a Times All-Valley selection as a freshman, has a 23-10 record at Hoover High. She was 17-8 with a 0.59 earned-run average last year, leading the Tornadoes to the Pacific League championship. She was slowed by a groin injury earlier this season but last week bounced back formidably.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Herbert returned to the field and was a workhorse, pitching 42 innings and winning five of six decisions. She threw a no-hitter against Rialto Eisenhower, tying Nancy Evans’ single-game school record with 21 strikeouts. Herbert struck out 65 batters and allowed 20 hits during a week that also included victories over Saugus, El Camino Real, Eagle Rock and Buena Park. Herbert had nine hits in 17 at-bats and five runs batted in.
