Authorities in Syracuse, N.Y., were investigating Tuesday whether the shooting death of a man there was related to a killing in Manhattan Beach last week, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Daniel Potter, 43, was found by his co-workers last Wednesday in his rented car outside Mr. Pocket Billiards at 516 north Sepulveda Blvd. Potter, who was from Virginia, was shot in the head and his wallet was missing, said Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Sciacca. It has been reported that Potter was a member of the Central Intelligence Agency.

In Syracuse Monday, a man was shot and killed at the home of Potter’s in-laws. Sciacca said it was unclear whether the person who was killed was a family member or a friend of the family.

Sciacca said detectives are in contact with the concerned agencies and are investigating whether the two shootings having anything to do with each other.
