Fullerton, Cody Squeeze Past Sonora in 8th

Chad Staffieri squeezed home Vinny Lopez in the top of the eighth to give ninth-ranked Fullerton a 2-1 Freeway League baseball victory over host Sonora Thursday.

Fullerton’s Jeff Cody (4-0) then retired Sonora in order in the bottom of the inning for the complete game. Cody hasn’t given up a walk in the last 15 innings. Fullerton improves to 6-1, 2-1.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 8, Cypress 6--Drew McMillan’s three-run homer in the seventh gave El Dorado an 8-5 lead. McMillan also doubled for the Golden Hawks (5-4, 1-1), who trailed, 5-4, going into the seventh.

Katella 6, Kennedy 3--Mike Martinez hit a solo home run in the third and Rick Thompson had one in the fourth to give Katella (5-4, 2-0) a 4-2 lead at Boysen Park.

Loara 4, Century 0--Eddie Joosten (2-1) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 13 for visiting Loara (5-3, 2-0). Ryan Banes hit a two-run homer in the fifth with two outs. Loara score two more in the seventh. Century is 0-2 in league.

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 7, Santiago 0--Adam Shaeffer pitched a two-hitter for host Los Amigos (5-3, 1-0). Robert Ramirez had a homer and two RBIs.

In the Golden West League:

No. 6 Tustin 12, Saddleback 4--Tustin’s Omar Berrera had four hits including a two-run homer and four RBIs and Danny Trujillo had three hits and two RBIs for Tustin (7-1, 2-0).

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 3, Woodbridge 2--Brian Hughes pitched a complete game for El Toro (6-3, 1-1).

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 4, Edison 3--Mike Harrison’s single drove in the game-winner in the fourth for Esperanza (4-3-1).
