Seven Not Enough for Huskies

Senior Ismael Rangsiyawong had three hits, including his eighth home run, and three runs batted in, but it wasn’t enough for the North Hollywood High baseball team in a 13-7 loss to Torrance on Saturday in pool play of the Redondo Union tournament.

North Hollywood (13-10-1) fell behind, 5-0, after one inning and 9-1 after three.

Raul Castaneda had two hits and drove in two runs for North Hollywood.

Jake Rand had two hits and scored a run for the Huskies, who scored once in the fourth and three times in the fifth to cut Torrance’s lead to 11-5.

In another baseball game:

Garfield 3, Rio Mesa 1--Alex Tellez (2-2) allowed just two hits, but two of his six walks led to Garfield runs in a Redondo Union tournament pool-play game.

John Ramirez tripled to drive home Paul Ayala and give Rio Mesa (18-5) a 1-0 lead. Garfield scored a run in the fourth and two in the sixth.

SOFTBALL

Victor Valley Christian 7, Bethel Christian 0--Kathy Nemback led off the game with a single but it proved to be Bethel Christian’s only hit in an Agape League game at Victor Valley Christian.

Andrea Gonzalez and Victoria Alvarado teamed to stifle Bethel Christian (7-5, 2-3 in league play) after the first inning. Gonzalez (8-2) pitched five innings to earn the victory. Victor Valley Christian (16-3, 5-0) had four hits.

Amanda Bouchillon (7-5) allowed six runs for Bethel Christian. Bouchillon walked 10 in six innings.

VOLLEYBALL

Laguna Beach d. Newbury Park, 14-16, 15-5, 15-12--Newbury Park fell to 15-5 after a first-round loss in the Redondo tournament.

Providence d. Avalon, 15-17, 15-6, 15-3, 15-7--John Mitchell had 33 kills and 11 digs for Providence (13-8, 6-3) in a Liberty League match at Avalon. Avalon is 11-5, 6-4 in league.
