Jon Garland (Kennedy) has been listed as the Chicago Cubs’ No. 3 prospect by The Sporting News.
A first-round pick in June, Garland pitched five innings Monday night for Class-A Rockford. He struck out two, allowed nine hits and five runs and did not factor in the decision in a 6-5 Midwest League loss to Fort Wayne.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound right-hander impressed the Chicago front office during the Arizona Fall League, where he struck out 39 in 40 innings and was 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA for Mesa. After five starts at Rockford, he is 0-1 with a 4.81 ERA and has allowed 20 runs, 13 earned.
