No. 1 Oding Is Stunned by Sheng

The third time was the charm for Phil Sheng of Thousand Oaks, who upset top-seeded Anders Oding of Royal, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, to win the Marmonte League singles championship Thursday afternoon at Agoura High.

The third-seeded Sheng lost to Oding twice during the league season but wound up handing the Swedish exchange student his first loss of the season.

Seventh--seeded Mike Mancini and Andrew Gold of Camarillo won the doubles title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Brad Wong and Albert Kim of Westlake.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Southern Section Preliminaries--Anthony Ervin of Hart was the top qualifier in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles in Division II at Belmont Plaza.

Ervin, along with Ryan Parmenter, Eric Pritchett and Christian Kneppeck had the top qualifying time in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Kenny Carpenter of Crescenta Valley was the top qualifier in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle.

Jason Weber and Chris Adamick of Westlake each qualified for two individual finals in Division I.

The Warriors were the third-fastest qualifier in the 200-yard medley relay and second-fastest in the 400 freestyle relay.

Aron Gyuris of Thousand Oaks also qualified for the finals in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Southern Section Preliminaries--Ingrid Salazar of Royal qualified sixth in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 200 freestyle in Division I at Belmont Plaza.

Taryn O’Leary of Westlake qualified for the 50 freestyle final, finishing in 24.98.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep d. Providence, 15-1, 10-15, 15-7, 15-7--Craig Revell had 34 kills and 15 digs, Chas Terhune had 13 kills and J.P. Checa had 56 assists for Flintridge Prep (16-1) in a Division III first-round playoff match at Flintridge Prep.
