* Newport Harbor at Marina, 7 p.m. Friday: Top-seeded Newport Harbor (19-0) has been sailing along in the Division I playoffs, even without starting setter Travis Nelson, who is out for the season because of a broken finger. Junior Ty Tramblie has stepped in and the Sailors haven’t missed a beat. Matt Jameson and Scott Archbold lead a balanced attack that will give Marina (15-5) all it can handle in this quarterfinal matchup. Jeff Wootton, Jeremy Blain and Marina will be the underdog, but so was Coach Darrick Lucero’s girls’ team, which upset top-seeded Newport Harbor in the state quarterfinals on the way to winning the school’s first state title.

* Corona del Mar vs. Costa Mesa, 7 p.m. Friday: Top-seeded Corona del Mar (11-5) is favored to win the Division III title. Costa Mesa (12-5) is enjoying one of its best seasons while advancing to this quarterfinal. B.J. Lightvoet is the Mustangs’ focal point, but everyone will have to be at their best if they hope to pull off an upset. Corona del Mar’s pair of 6-foot-5 middle blockers, Greg Coon and Dennis Alshuler, make it tough for any opposing hitters.
