Pacifica Has Power to Shut Down Norwalk Glenn

Home runs from Brian Barre in the first inning and Brandon Chapman in the second were the difference as Pacifica beat visiting Norwalk Glenn, 2-0, in the Southern Section Division III baseball playoffs Friday.

Pacifica’s Matt Chapman pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts, limiting the Eagles to a fourth-inning single. Pacifica (19-8) plays Brea Olinda Tuesday in the second round.

In other Division III games:

Brea Olinda 6, Garden Grove 4--Senior Scott Davis had seven strikeouts and two hits in his complete game for Brea Olinda (18-8-1). Travis Vaughan hit a two-run double and teammate Andy Drapkowski scored two runs, including a steal of home. Garden Grove finishes 12-13.

Santa Margarita 14, Savanna 6--The Eagles hit four home runs. Randall Shelley hit his ninth of the season, Matt Strickroth his fourth, Matt Vancoutren his fifth and Nick Mosich his second. Santa Margarita, which plays Western Tuesday, is 21-6. Savanna finishes 12-14.

Western 12, Laguna Hills 0 (5, mercy)--A three-run home run by Mike Coletto and Will Ruffin’s two-run home run keyed an eight-run second inning for Western (18-7). Laguna Hills finishes 14-12.

Ben Swanson also had a double and a triple to drive in three runs. Brandon Herbert gave up three hits over five innings to earn the victory.

In Division IV:

Calvary Chapel 4, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 1--John Tucker recorded 13 groundouts, struck out four and gave up only two hits for Calvary Chapel (21-5). Chad Sterbens was two for three with a double and one RBI for the Eagles.

Fullerton 5, Lakewood Mayfair 0--Jeff Cody, the Freeway League MVP, pitched a two-hit shutout for Fullerton (17-7).

La Quinta 10, Big Bear 0 (6, mercy)--Jason Garcia pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 12 for La Quinta (27-1).

Garcia also singled twice and drove in three runs.

In Division V:

Capistrano Valley Christian 7, Long Beach St. Anthony 6 (8)--Thomas Grove and Josh Emery each drove in a run in the top of the eighth for Capistrano Valley Christian (17-3-1).

Grove pitched three no-hit innings for the victory and struck out four. Grove singled in the tying run in the sixth to force extra innings.
