Seeking Soldiers for ‘War’

“War on the Floor” organizers are looking for area Southern Section varsity basketball coaches to play June 28 against their City Section counterparts.

All graduating high school seniors are invited to compete in any of several “War on the Floor” individual competitions June 27 at Chatsworth High. There will be a one-on-one tournament, as well as free-throw, three-point shooting and dunk contests. Cost is $5 per player. To register, call (818) 341-6211, ext. 1950.

A tryout camp for the California Dolphins, a semi-pro football team, is scheduled for June 6 at 1 p.m. at Poly High.

The Dolphins were 13-1 last season and won the championship of the Pacific Football League.

Players must be at least 18 years old, have junior-college level or higher playing experience, and be available to practice twice a week and play games on weekends.

Players will incur some equipment costs and a tryout fee of $25 is due the day of the camp. Information: (805) 947-7971.

Tryouts for the Magic, a 16-and-under girls’ fast-pitch travel softball team are today at Franklin Fields in Encino.

Northridge ASA Girls’ Softball is seeking players for a 16-and-under high school division team to play in ASA summer recreational tournaments.

Signups and tryouts are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. May 31 at the Northridge ASA field, 18747 Devonshire Blvd.
