Debate Squad Wins 5th Straight Title
The South Orange County Community College District speech and debate team has earned the 1997-98 league championship for the fifth year in a row.
Saddleback College hosted the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Assn. championship open to two- and four-year institutions from Bakersfield to San Diego.
The team, composed of students from Irvine Valley and Saddleback colleges, competes at three events throughout the year. More than 500 students have participated during the last five years.
The trophy is shared between the two campuses.
“It is always exciting to see our new crop of speakers,” said Gary Rybold, director of forensics at Irvine Valley College.
