SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Adrianna Wilson hit a run-scoring double and Nicole Crouse pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Kennedy’s 1-0 victory over La Mirada in second-round Southern Section Division II softball game Tuesday at Cypress’ Arnold Park.

Wilson’s RBI double was set up after Cross singled off the glove of La Mirada third baseman Jennifer Johnson and Kennedy cleanup hitter Kelly Bunker sacrificed Cross to second. Wilson lined a 2-0 pitch into the left-center field gap.

“Adrianna showed some good mental discipline and came through for us,” Kennedy Coach Sue Hall said.

Crouse, who has signed with Purdue, made the lead stand up, giving up only two singles for the Fighting Irish (20-6), who advanced to play the Cerritos in the quarterfinals.

Crouse outdueled La Mirada’s star player, Jennie Finch, who has signed with Arizona. Finch gave up four hits, struck out 11 and had the only base hit that left the infield for La Mirada (21-6).

Crouse allowed only three balls out of the infield and La Mirada did not advance a runner past second base.

The only hard-hit ball against Crouse was a long foul ball Finch hit in the fourth. Finch sent a towering drive down the left-field line, but the breeze helped push it a few feet foul.

Crouse then struck out Finch.
