Wolverines Produce Another 18-0 Rout

Kevin Bezonsky, Andrew Rosenfeld and Andrew Trager each went 3-0 in singles play to help top-seeded Harvard-Westlake to an 18-0 victory over La Verne Bonita on Tuesday in a quarterfinal match of the Southern Section Division III boys’ tennis playoffs at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

It was the third consecutive 18-0 victory for the Wolverines (20-3), who beat Bosco Tech in the first round and Rosemead in the second round.

Bezonsky won 6-2, 6-3, 6-0; Rosenfeld won 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 and Trager won 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles play, Harvard-Westlake’s No. 1 team of Brent Iloulian and Brian Bezonsky, Kevin’s brother, won its three matches, each at 6-1.

The Wolverines will play Palm Desert in a semifinal match on Thursday at a site to be determined.

In other quarterfinal matches:

Peninsula 14, Thousand Oaks 4--The Lancers’ Division I playoff run came to an end at Thousand Oaks.

Thousand Oaks (15-6), third in the Marmonte League and an at-large entry, defeated Littlerock, Rio Mesa and San Marcos in previous rounds but managed only four victories in singles matches against top-seeded Peninsula (21-1).

Freshman Phil Sheng won three singles matches for Thousand Oaks.

Jeff Linneman won one singles match for Thousand Oaks.

San Marino 15, Campbell Hall 3--Singles players Andrew Park and J.P. Fruitterro, members of the U.S. junior national team, were undefeated in six matches and San Marino improved to 20-0 in a Division IV match at San Marino.

Josh Glass and James Chun were among three doubles teams to record victories for Campbell Hall (16-4).
