My Favorite Weekend

Share

Ray Romano of TV’s “Everybody Loves Raymond” (CBS, Mondays at 8:30 p.m.)

Lying Low: Friday nights, I go out for sushi with my wife, Anna. Then we go to one of “her” movies (a sexual thriller). When we get home, we are usually too tired to do anything else if you know what I mean. I fall asleep reading.

Swinging: I get up early to golf with my friend Kevin on Saturday. The El Caballero Country Club has a very nice course in Tarzana not far from my house. I’m an average golfer who has good and bad days. If it’s an ideal weekend we’re talking about, I beat Kevin. We are very competitive and we like to yell and curse.

A Good Racquet: I come home after golf and the kids have friends over. They are very busy, amusing themselves. I play some tennis with Kevin, and beat him again.

Stargazing: With four kids, if my wife and I stay in it gets crazy. Instead, on Saturday nights we like to have dinner at the Ivy on Robertson. After dinner, Peter Boyle (Romano’s co-star on “Everybody Loves Raymond”) may get us into the Sky Bar. We get to see a celebrity or two go in and go out. We don’t really belong there, but that’s part of the fun.

TV Land: I hardly ever miss “Saturday Night Live.” I like Colin Quinn and some of the other guys. I was 18 years old when SNL started, and when you are 18 and you make arrangements to watch TV on a Saturday night, you know it has to be good. It was a big part of my growing up, and now I know the guys in the cast.

Surfing Safari: Back when I lived in Queens, New York, I was really into surfing. And we didn’t get many chances. Maybe one out of 20 times you’d catch a wave. I have never surfed in L.A., but I’d like to try. If it were my dream weekend, maybe we’d bring the kids with us to the beach and they would behave (that’s a big part of the weekend) and maybe that night the wife and I--who knows!
