Man Shot at His Door on Halloween Improves
A man shot Halloween night when he answered the doorbell and encountered a masked assailant was in good condition Monday while investigators pursued leads in the case, authorities said.
The victim initially was in serious condition when admitted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, but his condition has improved, said Lt. Joe Eddy of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire station.
The shooting was probably a calculated crime, police said.
“This is not just an isolated or random act where people [were] pretending to be trick-or-treaters,” Eddy said.
When the victim answered the doorbell about 7 p.m. Saturday at his home in the 8900 block of Megan Place, he found a man wearing a ghost mask. The man opened fire, striking the victim several times in the chest, police said.
Among the leads detectives were pursuing was a partial description of the vehicle the assailant may have driven, Eddy said.
Detectives said they would not reveal other information because it could jeopardize the investigation and compromise the safety of people associated with the case.
