Esperanza and Fountain Valley already have qualified for the playoffs from the Sunset League, but this game will help determine where they are seeded in Division I. Neither wants to meet Long Beach Poly, Mater Dei or La Puente Bishop Amat in a first-round game. Just as important, the Aztecs and Barons want to establish that their defenses can stop or contain a high-powered offense. Quarterback Grant Wagner helps Esperanza average 41 points a game, and his counterpart, Ryan Breska, has guided Fountain Valley to an average of 27.
