Flaming West Wins Hollypark Feature
Flaming West, far back early in the race, overtook Dramatic Gold in the late going to win Thursday’s $50,000 feature at Hollywood Park by one length.
Ridden by Kent Desormeaux and carrying 117 pounds, Flaming West covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15 1-5 and, as the 5-1 third-favorite in a field of seven, paid $12.20, $6.20 and $4.80.
The win was the fifth in 16 lifetime starts and was worth $30,000, raising the career earnings of the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Gone West to $137,462.
Dramatic Gold, the 9-2 second-favorite ridden by Garrett Gomez and carrying 115 pounds, crossed the finish line 1 1/2 lengths in front of Young At Heart and returned $6.20 and $4.20.
Young At Heart, ridden by Alex Solis and carrying 115 pounds, was a half-length ahead of Flick at the wire and paid $4 to show.
Following Flick across the finish line in the allowance race for 3-year-olds and up were 11-10 favorite Swiss Yodeler, The Barking Shark and Hammurabi. Driggs Retreat and Peyrano were scratched.
