Man Injured by Jumper Is Still on Critical List

Share

A security guard who tried to catch a woman who jumped from a Sherman Oaks Galleria parking garage remained in critical condition Friday with a broken neck.

Conrad Buchanan’s act of heroism may have paralyzed him, relatives said. Buchanan, a 26-year-old father of two daughters, was conscious Friday but unable to speak because of feeding tubes obstructing his throat.

The jumper, Julie Light, 68, of Camarillo, died. Her family has kept in contact with the guard’s mother, Norma Buchanan, to monitor Conrad’s condition.

Norma Buchanan said she was grateful for their support and the dozens of other people who have expressed sympathy.

“We have faith God is going to pull him through,” she said. “Miracles do happen.”

A fund has been established to help pay medical bills. Contributions may be sent to Conrad Buchanan Donations, P.O. Box 7362, Los Angeles, CA 90007.
