2 Lanes to Be Closed on Victoria Avenue

Victoria Avenue will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes in each direction under the Ventura Freeway during a two-month construction project that starts Monday, city road workers said.

Signs will notify drivers, but severe congestion is expected in both directions. Officials are asking motorists to avoid the interchange unless visiting a business in the area.

In addition to the lane reduction, the left-turn lane from northbound Victoria Avenue onto the northbound Ventura Freeway will be eliminated.

To reach the northbound freeway, motorists should drive north on Victoria to California 126 and travel west on 126.

Access will still be available from southbound Victoria Avenue to both north- and southbound freeway lanes.

The restrictions will be in effect until early February.

The construction is part of a $12.5-million interchange project, which began in April and is expected to be completed next November. It includes building two new bridges and new southbound on- and offramps for the freeway, as well as the widening of Victoria Avenue and Valentine Road.
