Man Accidentally Shoots Self in Leg
An Oxnard man accidentally shot himself in the leg Saturday morning after hearing noises and retrieving his handgun for safety, police said.
Melvin Allen, 52, told authorities that he was asleep in his home on the 2100 block of Hughes Drive when he was awakened by noises about 4 a.m. He said he retrieved his .45-caliber handgun, which discharged and struck him in the leg.
Allen was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and released, police said.
