The driver of a refrigeration truck was injured Friday afternoon when his truck overturned on the southbound Ventura Freeway, just north of California 126, authorities said.

The driver, whose identity was not released by the California Highway Patrol, was being treated for minor injuries at Community Memorial Hospital on Friday evening, authorities said.

The driver told CHP officers that he swerved left from the middle lane to avoid hitting a car. In doing so, his truck hit a Mazda before turning over on the left shoulder, authorities said.

The driver of the Mazda, Roland Eskey of Castaic, was not injured.

The 2:10 p.m. accident did not block traffic, but vehicles were slowed to a near standstill on both sides of freeway.

Eskey said the truck nearly pinned his small car between it and the concrete guardrail.

The truck, belonging to BW Provisions of Los Angeles, was empty except for a few wooden palettes, authorities said. Two crews from the Ventura City Fire Department plugged diesel fuel leaking from the truck’s cooling unit.
