Fast-Moving Storm to Bring Coastal Rain
A Pacific storm system was creeping into Ventura County late Friday, bringing a trace of rain to coastal cities and the promise of up to an inch today in the mountains.
A storm watch for Ventura County was issued Friday because the snow level was expected to drop overnight to 4,500 feet. A snow advisory will be in effect all day today for mountain areas above 6,000 feet.
“This will be a relatively fast-moving system,” said meteorologist Bill Hoffer of the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.
Hoffer said 4 to 7 inches of snow may accumulate in the mountains by this morning.
“People traveling in the mountains should carry extra food, water, clothing, blankets and don’t forget the chains,” Hoffer said.
Between half an inch and an inch of rain was expected by this morning on the coast and inland, Hoffer said. There is a 20% chance of more rain tonight.
Highs will be in the low 60s with lows in the 50s.
It will be partly cloudy Sunday with high temperatures in the mid-60s. Similar weather is expected Monday. More showers were forecast for Tuesday.
