More than $60 million worth of cocaine was seized and five people arrested, including a Garden Grove man, during a raid on a garage near Chicago’s Midway Airport, police and federal agents said.

Police spokesman Pat Camden said the raid occurred after a surveillance team spotted a group of men unloading the drugs, wrapped in plastic bags, from a pickup.

About 500 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $62 million, a semiautomatic pistol, $48,275 in cash and the 1995 pickup truck were seized.

The drugs were shrink-wrapped in 100 packages, with each package containing 5 kilograms of cocaine, police said.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance were: Teddy Encarnacion, 27, of Chicago, John Guzman, 38, of San Quintin, Mexico; Demetrius Polanco, 25, of Cicero; Felix Meza Ramiro, 50, of Garden Grove, and Carlos Valencia, 25, of San Jose.

They were being held at Cook County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing on narcotics charges, Camden said.

Camden said the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration took part in the investigation.
