LAX to Pay $17 Million for Noise Abatement
Inglewood will receive $17 million in grants to help mitigate noise from Los Angeles International Airport, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) announced.
Two grants from the Federal Aviation Administration’s airport improvement program will allow residents to move to homes in quieter areas and help soundproof others in the Darby-Dixon neighborhood.
The first grant of $5 million will be used to move residents and purchase land in that neighborhood for a commercial development called the Century Center Project.
“We’re really going to make it a nice neighborhood,” said Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn.
A second grant of $12 million will be used to help soundproof 700 residences in the Darby-Dixon neighborhood, which is two miles from the airport and lies beneath the approaches for the airport’s north and south runways.
