“We started out like we practiced this week, slow,” said Looney. “We won’t be able to get away with starting off games like this in the weeks to come.”

Katella (2-2) took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards in four plays to take a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Chris Haller capped the drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Jordan.

Brea countered with a 28-yard touchdown run by Lieng and a Blood touchdown pass to Matt Winkler to take a 14-7 lead.

Knights’ running back Francis Johnson tied the score, 14-14, on an 83-yard run with 3:57 left in the first quarter. The Wildcats’ defense stiffened, their offense broke loose and by the end of the first quarter, Brea had increased its lead 21-14 on a 13-yard touchdown run by Deonta Birdsong. The Wildcats added three touchdowns in the second quarter.
