Brentwood 10, Campbell Hall 8--Melissa Nguyen swept three sets at No. 1 singles, including one in the last round, but the Vikings (6-1, 0-1) lost a Delphic League opener at Rancho Park in Los Angeles.

Brentwood (6-2, 2-0), Southern Section Division V runner-up last season, broke away from a 3-3 tie after the first round and led, 7-5, after the second round.

Simi Valley 13, Santa Barbara 5--Mindy Gondrez swept three sets and No. 3 player Katie Franklin picked up a victory over No. 1 Alyssa Newton of the Dons to help the Pioneers (7-0) in a nonleague match at Santa Barbara.

Simi Valley’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams each swept three sets to remain unbeaten this season with a combined 21-0 record.

La Reina 9, Thousand Oaks 9--The No. 2 team of sisters Erin and Kathryn Meister beat Jeannette Batur and Liz Ozar for the only doubles victory in a nonleague match the Regents won on games, 77-68, at Thousand Oaks.

La Reina (5-1) won eight of nine singles sets, including three each by No. 1 player Samantha Hammond and No. 3 Emily Lennox.

Glendale 18, Muir 0--Laurel Beesemyer swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles for the Dynamiters (3-6, 1-1) in a Pacific League match at Muir.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Chaminade def. Marlborough, 13-15, 8-15, 15-5, 15-12, 15-7--Delaney Menell collected 25 kills in 51 attempts and the Eagles overcame the absence of two starters and a two-game deficit to win a 2 1/2-hour nonleague match at Marlborough.

Despite playing without outside hitter Abigail Hedgpeth because of illness and opposite hitter Maureen LeCocq, who was on a retreat, Chaminade (5-2) held off the Mustangs in the fourth game after taking a 12-3 lead.

La Reina def. Notre Dame, 15-3, 10-15, 9-15, 15-2, 15-13--Jennifer Ryan had 21 kills and four aces, Ashlie Hain had 10 kills, four aces and 30 assists, and the Regents (8-0) served 21 aces and beat the Knights (6-1) in a nonleague match at La Reina.

Campbell Hall def. Village Christian, 15-9, 15-7, 15-10--Natia Small had five of her 12 kills for the Vikings (3-3) in the second game against Village Christian (7-1) in nonleague match at Campbell Hall.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Crescenta Valley 9, Glendale 6--Kenny Carpenter had two goals each in the second, third and fourth quarters to help the Falcons (10-4) defeat the Dynamiters (8-2) in a second-round game of the El Segundo tournament.

Glendale defeated Crescenta Valley, 17-16, on Wednesday to end the Falcons’ 38-game Pacific League winning streak.
