Teacher Accused of Molesting Children
A Huntington Beach elementary school teacher was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of molesting youngsters on campus, police said.
Jeffrey Kent Atkinson, 53, of Laguna Niguel was charged with six felony counts of child molestation. Officials said the alleged abuses involved children ages 8 to 10 at William T. Newland School during the 1997-98 school year.
Police would not say how many incidents or how many children they think were involved.
“We’re not releasing the number of kids because they’re still looking at the potential for new victims,” said Lt. Jon Arnold of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Bail for Atkinson was set at $50,000, Arnold said.
The investigation is continuing.
A spokesperson at the Fountain Valley Unified School District could not be reached for comment.
