Capistrano Valley defeated Mater Dei, the second-ranked team in the state Division II, 12-15, 15-10, 15-7, 15-7, in a South Coast League girls’ volleyball match Thursday at Capistrano Valley.

Becky Warnick had 18 kills and Rochelle Currier added 12 kills for the unranked Cougars (10-0, 2-0 in league). Mater Dei is 3-3, 1-1.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, Katella 0--Dusty Creager had 16 kills in the 15-5, 15-3, 15-3 victory for visiting Cypress (4-2, 2-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 3, Troy 2--Worthy Lien had 25 kills for Sonora (5-1, 2-0), which rallied for a 9-15, 8-15, 15-6, 15-10, 15-11 victory. Tatiana Kalache had 19 kills for Troy.

In the Orange League:

Anaheim 3, Brea Olinda 1--Darlene Tuua had 13 kills in the 15-11, 15-1, 6-15, 15-8 victory for host Anaheim (8-2, 2-0).

Valencia 3, Western 0--Katie Eatherton had 15 kills for Valencia (6-2, 2-0), which won its 50th consecutive league match, 15-2, 17-15, 15-9.

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 3, Corona del Mar 0--Jamie Witmer had 11 kills for visiting Irvine (7-1, 2-0), which defeated Corona del Mar (4-4, 1-1), ranked third in Southern Section Division III-A, 15-4, 15-0, 15-10.

Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 0--April Ross had 16 kills and 10 digs in the 15-12, 15-1, 15-9 victory for host Newport Harbor (6-0, 2-0), the top-ranked team in Division I-AA.

Santa Margarita is 2-3, 0-2.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 3, Los Alamitos 2--Edison rallied from a 14-9 deficit in the final game to win, 8-15, 15-11, 6-15, 15-13, 16-14.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ golf:

University 136, Costa Mesa 204--Freshman Angela Won shot three-over 39 at Rancho San Joaquin for host University (8-0, 2-0).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 114, Los Alamitos 132--Laurel Visser birdied No. 3, a 100-yard par 3, and No. 6, a 220-yard par 4, and finished with a three-over 34 for Edison (4-2, 1-1) at David L. Baker.

In Century League girls’ tennis:

Villa Park 10, Foothill 8--Kristen Lawson and Tina Pattara won in doubles, 7-5, 6-1, 6-3, for the Spartans (3-5, 3-0), ranked eighth in Division III.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 10, La Habra 8--Iris Yuan swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in singles for host Sunny Hills (6-2, 3-0). La Habra is 8-2, 1-2.

Saddleback 9, Santa Ana 9 (Saddleback wins on games, 78-67)--Saddleback’s Khanh Huynh won her final set in a tiebreaker, 7-5. Huynh won her other two sets, 6-1, 6-0 for Saddleback (4-3, 2-1).

In the Sea View League:

No. 1 Corona del Mar 17, Irvine 1--Kristen Griffith swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for host Corona del Mar (7-1, 3-0). Irvine dropped to 3-8, 0-3.

No. 5 Newport Harbor 14, Santa Margarita 4--Erika Palm and Amanda Callopy swept in doubles, 7-5, 6-1, 6-3, for Newport Harbor (7-4, 2-1).

In the South Coast League:

No. 3 Mater Dei 12, No. 6 Capistrano Valley 6--Melissa Esmero won, 6-1, 7-5, 6-1, in singles for host Mater Dei (7-2, 2-0), which won eight of nine doubles sets.

In Pacific Coast League boys’ water polo:

Laguna Beach 14, Aliso Niguel 10--Kirk Zigler scored five goals for Laguna Beach (1-0 in league), ranked sixth in Division II.
