ON TV

Kansas City at New England

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* TV: Channel 2.

* Records: Chiefs 4-1; Patriots 3-1.

* Story line: The Chiefs welcome back quarterback Elvis Grbac, who is fully recovered after suffering a shoulder injury in the Chiefs’ opener. The Patriots’ Drew Bledsoe goes up against the NFL’s No. 1 defense after having three passes intercepted last week against the Saints, ending a streak of 116 passes without an interception.

* Line: Patriots by 3

*

San Francisco at New Orleans

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* TV: Channel 11.

* Records: 49ers 3-1; Saints 3-1.

* Story line: This might not be the best time for the Saints to face the 49ers--one week after the 49ers’ meltdown at Buffalo. “I think they’ll be mad,” says Saint Coach Mike Ditka, whose team lost to New England last week on a last-second field goal by Adam Vinatieri. “Someone woke up the sleeping giant, maybe.” Steve Young has passed for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns in each of the 49ers’ games.

* Line: 49ers by 10

*

Denver at Seattle

* Kickoff: 1:15 p.m.

* TV: Channel 2.

* Records: Broncos 5-0; Seahawks 3-2.

* Story line: John Elway is expected to be back in the lineup for the Broncos, but the Seahawks’ Warren Moon may have to sit out because of a rib injury. The Seahawks, after losses on the road against the Steelers and Chiefs, could use Moon against the defending Super Bowl champions. “They’re the best team in the NFL without a doubt,” Seahawk Coach Dennis Erickson says of the Broncos, whose Terrell Davis has rushed for an NFL-best 657 yards and eight touchdowns.

*

Atlanta at New York Giants

* Kickoff: 5:15 p.m.

* TV: ESPN.

* Records: Falcons 3-1; Giants 2-3.

* Story line: Not that they care, but the Falcons have a chance to show they’re for real in front of a national television audience. “We know how good we are,” says safety William White. “I think people out there, and the media, don’t believe we’re tied for first. The important thing for us is that the people in this locker room believe.” The Falcons’ offense is one of the league’s most potent. The Giants’ is among the least potent.

* Line: Giants by 2 1/2

THE REST

Buffalo at Indianapolis

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* Records: Bills 1-3; Colts 1-4.

* Story line: After beating the 49ers in one of the season’s biggest upsets, the Bills try to win on the road. Peyton Manning and the Colts finally won last week, but it was against Ryan Leaf and the faltering Chargers.

* Line: Bills by 2 1/2

*

Carolina at Dallas

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* Records: Panthers 0-4; Cowboys 3-2.

* Story line: With Kerry Collins voluntarily taking a seat, Steve Beuerlein takes over the Panthers’ offense. The Cowboys’ Troy Aikman had hoped to return this week, but X-rays showed that his broken collarbone hasn’t totally healed. His replacement, Jason Garrett, completed 14 of 17 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 31-10 victory over the Redskins.

* Line: Cowboys by 7

*

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* Records: Steelers 3-1; Bengals 1-3.

* Story line: The Steelers, who are winning despite averaging only 12.5 points a game, hope to get their offense untracked after last week’s bye. “We’ve shown signs of doing some things well,” Coach Bill Cowher says. “We just haven’t done them on a consistent basis.” The Steelers’ Jerome Bettis has rushed for at least 100 yards all five times he has faced the Bengals.

* Line: Steelers by 2 1/2

*

Tennessee at Baltimore

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* Records: Oilers 1-3; Ravens 2-2.

* Story line: The Oilers’ Eddie George is the marquee back in this game, but it’s the Ravens’ Priest Holmes who is coming off the monster game. Two weeks ago, in his first NFL start, the second-year back ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-24 victory over the Bengals.

* Line: Ravens by 3 1/2

*

Washington at Philadelphia

* Kickoff: 10 a.m.

* Records: Redskins 0-5; Eagles 0-5.

* Story line: What makes these teams so bad? The Redskins’ defense and the Eagles’ offense rank among the worst in the league. The Eagles’ Bobby Hoying, whose 55.6 rating is worst in the NFC, has been replaced by Rodney Peete. On a more optimistic note, “It’s got to get better,” says Redskin receiver Leslie Shepherd. “Something has to go right. I can’t see us going 0-16.”

*

Chicago at Arizona

* Kickoff: 1 p.m.

* Records: Bears 1-4; Cardinals 2-3.

* Story line: Curtis Conway is expected back for the Bears, who squandered halftime leads in their first four games before reversing the trend last week by rallying to beat the Lions, 31-27. The Cardinals, meanwhile, ran out of time in last week’s 23-20 loss to the Raiders, running one too many plays before they could get their field-goal unit onto the field.

* Line: Cardinals by 3

*

New York Jets at St. Louis

* Kickoff: 1:15 p.m.

* Records: Jets 2-2; Rams 1-3.

* Story line: The Jets won two in a row with Vinny Testaverde at quarterback, but Glenn Foley will start after sitting out two games because of a rib injury. Running back Curtis Martin is questionable because of a bruised thigh after carrying 38 times for 108 yards and a touchdown in last week’s 20-9 victory over the Dolphins. Ram quarterback Tony Banks is still banged up despite last week’s bye, but vows to play. “If I can walk,” he says, “I’ll be out there.”

* Line: Jets by 3 1/2

*

San Diego at Oakland

* Kickoff: 1:15 p.m.

* Records: Chargers 2-3; Raiders 3-2.

* Story line: The Raiders are without quarterback Jeff George, who is sidelined because of injury for the first time since 1992 after suffering a torn groin muscle in last week’s 23-20 loss to the Cardinals. His replacement, Donald Hollas, makes his first NFL start since 1992. Rookie Ryan Leaf is struggling for the Chargers, who have lost three in a row. Leaf’s quarterback rating of 36.5 is the league’s worst.

* Line: Raiders by 5
