Blaze Destroys House, Leaving 3 Homeless

Share

A fire that destroyed an Orange Park Acres house Sunday left homeless two family members, who had just suffered the death of a relative, and a boarder, firefighters said.

The blaze also claimed the life of a pet dog, three cats and some birds.

Though the cause is under investigation, firefighters suspect the 4:55 a.m. blaze spread from a fireplace, said Capt. Scott Brown of the Orange County Fire Authority. The home, at 10671 Morada Drive, was valued at $250,000, with another $50,000 in contents.

The residents were a woman, her adult son and the boarder. A day before the fire, the mother of the woman died in the house of natural causes, according to the Orange County American Red Cross, which is caring for the survivors.
