West L.A. 20, Valley 13--A double-pass play was double trouble for Valley in a WSC Southern Division game at West L.A.

After taking a screen pass from quarterback Reginald Haynes, D. Craig Mitchell of West Los Angeles threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Monjero Jones with 1:38 remaining to give the Oilers the victory.

After the ensuing kickoff, Valley drove from its 38-yard line to the West L.A. 16. But on fourth and 11 from the West L.A. 17 with 15 seconds left, Eric Holtfreter’s pass to Dominic Early fell incomplete in the end zone.

Vinny Walker, who scored on a one-yard run to cap an 85-yard drive that gave the Monarchs a brief 7-6 edge with 10:28 left in the first half, finished with a team-high 47 yards in 17 carries.

Valley (2-3, 1-1) managed only 292 total yards but erased a 12-7 halftime deficit with two 31-yard field goals by Fernando Arias, who kicked one in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter that put the Monarchs ahead, 13-12.

West L.A.’s Tyrone Morse intercepted a pass with 6:05 left in the first half and returned it 25 yards to the Valley 20 to set up the Oilers’ go-ahead touchdown, a six-yard run by Carl Thomas with four minutes to play in the half.

Thomas had 44 yards in eight carries for West L.A. (3-2, 1-1).
