Kansas State Runs Its Win Streak to 14

Michael Bishop may have only completed eight of 23 passes, but his coach doesn’t mind when they go for 287 yards and three touchdowns.

“I’ll live with it,” Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder said Saturday after Bishop passed and ran the No. 4-ranked Wildcats past Oklahoma State, 52-20, at Manhattan, Kan.

“I’d like for him to throw 60% and still average about 30 yards a catch. But I have no choices,” Snyder said.

Bishop also had a team-high 89 yards rushing, including two touchdown runs, and became Kansas State’s all-time rushing leader as a quarterback. Also, the Wildcats broke an 88-year-old school record with their 14th consecutive victory.

“Bishop is a heck of a player,” Oklahoma State Coach Bob Simmons said. “He’s probably the best in the country.”

Bishop fueled a fourth-quarter drive with a 51-yard run as the Wildcats (6-0 overall, 3-0 in the Big 12) erased the school record for consecutive victories established in 1909-10. He has 820 career yards rushing.

Oklahoma State (2-4, 1-3), playing away from home for the fifth time in six games, lost its seventh in a row to Kansas State, which has defeated 44 unranked opponents in a row at home.

No. 8 Nebraska 41, Kansas 0--Reserve Correll Buckhalter ran for 133 yards and three touchdowns as the Cornhuskers returned to form on both sides of the ball in a blowout at Lincoln, Neb.

After a narrow 24-17 victory over Oklahoma State and last week’s 28-21 loss at Texas A&M;, Nebraska looked like its old self, finishing with 466 rushing yards and 545 yards overall.

The Huskers (6-1, 2-1) forced two fumbles that resulted in scores and dominated Kansas (2-5, 0-5), which came in averaging 33 points a game.

It was the Cornhuskers’ first shutout since defeating the Jayhawks, 35-0, last year. Nebraska also extended its home winning streak to 46 games and defeated Kansas for the 30th consecutive year.

No. 10 Texas A&M; 35, Baylor 14--Wide receiver Chris Taylor ran 61 yards for a touchdown on a reverse and senior halfback Sirr Parker threw his first collegiate touchdown pass as the Aggies rolled to victory at Waco, Texas.

The Aggies (6-1, 3-0) ran the Bears (2-4, 1-2) into the ground in the first half, then discouraged Baylor with three trick plays in the second half before 42,333 fans who braved rain and flood warnings to attend the game.

The Aggies struck quickly in the first quarter. After quarterback Randy McCown completed a 21-yard pass to Leroy Hodge, Dante Hall took a pitch, juked linebacker Jason Jackson to the ground, and scored on a 38-yard run.

Hall had 137 yards in 17 carries for the Aggies, who defeated Baylor for the eighth consecutive time.

No. 19 Colorado 19, No. 22 Texas Tech 17--Jeremy Aldrich kicked four field goals, the last capping an 18-play drive, as the Buffaloes used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Red Raiders at Boulder, Colo.

Colorado (6-1, 3-1) forced three turnovers and held the Red Raiders (6-1, 3-1) in check over the final 30 minutes, preventing Spike Dykes from tying Pete Cawthon as the winningest coach in Texas Tech history.

Ricky Williams, who entered the game averaging 171 yards rushing, had 94 yards by halftime and finished with 142 for the Red Raiders, who were held 13 points under their scoring average.

No. 20 Missouri 20, Oklahoma 6--Wade Perkins returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown at Columbia, Mo., as the the Tigers earned their first victory over the Sooners since 1983.

Devin West ran for two touchdowns for Missouri (5-1, 2-0), which held Oklahoma to two first downs and 48 yards in the first half. The Sooners finished with 247 yards.

Playing in front of a sellout crowd of 61,586, Missouri ended a 12-game losing streak against Oklahoma. The teams had not met since 1995, when Missouri went to the Big 12 North Division and Oklahoma (2-4, 0-3) to the South.
