Timmy Ryan caught nine passes for 154 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown from Jason McKeon with 2:11 remaining, to lift Canyon High over Saugus, 28-21, in a Foothill League game Friday night at Canyon.
David Johnson recovered a Saugus fumble at Canyon’s 47-yard line with 18 seconds to play to preserve the victory for the Cowboys (5-2, 2-0 in league play).
McKeon completed 11 of 21 for 169 yards. He also rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns, including a four-yard sneak that tied the score, 21-21, with 6:30 to play.
Saugus (1-6, 0-2) was without leading rusher Sean Stoddard because of an ankle injury suffered last week against Hart. But senior Matthew Kopp picked up the slack, rushing for 96 yards in nine carries, including a 68-yard touchdown run that tied the score, 7-7, in the first quarter.
David Parker completed eight of 18 passes for 96 yards for the Centurions, including a 16-yard touchdown to Chad Garrett in the second quarter. Garrett threw an 18-yard halfback option pass to Jarin Stockle to give Saugus a 21-13 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Drew Welch scored on a two-yard run to pull Canyon within 14-13 with 41 seconds left in the first half.
