The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the two people who were killed when a pickup truck plunged off a 150-foot embankment into the San Gabriel Reservoir as teenagers from Rosemead.

Arnoldo Moreno, 18, and Anthony Gonzales, 16, were passengers in the truck that skidded off California 39 and went airborne after hitting a guardrail.

The survivor, believed to be the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle, Chris Castenada of Temple City, was hoisted from the reservoir by helicopter and taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Shortly before the crash, a U.S. Forest Service law enforcement agent saw the white pickup speeding by him on the wrong side of the road above Azusa, authorities said. The California Highway Patrol estimates that the driver left a 200-foot skid mark as the driver began to lose control of the vehicle before plummeting over the roadside.
