Washington’s Towns May Miss Opener

Last year’s leading Huskies tackler, Lester Towns, is still recovering from a surgically repaired right foot and probably won’t play in the Washington opener.
Jeff Johnson, a junior, will start if Towns doesn’t.
Tailback Willie Hurst, a freshman from Compton, will miss the Arizona State game because of a broken thumb.

The Pacific-10 Conference agreed to send its second-place team to the Holiday Bowl for the next four years. Holiday Bowl officials and the Pacific 10 are still working on a deal to lock up an opponent.
