A sexual assault suspect who failed to appear for his arraignment in Long Beach was arrested Tuesday at his apartment only a mile from the courthouse, police said.

Long Beach police officers received a tip that Payman Borhan, 34, was hiding at his home near 6th Place and Ocean Boulevard, said Police Officer Maria Lopez. He was arrested about 1:45 p.m.

Borhan was first arrested by Long Beach police Aug. 23, two days after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in her house while selling water purification systems door-to-door, Lopez said. He posted his $10,000 bail and was released, she said.

A Municipal Court judge on Monday issued a $500,000 arrest warrant for Borhan when he failed to arrive for his arraignment hearing, Lopez said.

Borhan had been sought in connection with at least three other sexual assaults, including one in West Los Angeles and two on minors in Orange County, she said.
