Officers Head to England to Box for a Good Cause

Twelve local law enforcement officers flew to England on Tuesday to match their boxing skills with London’s finest, with all of the participants hoping to score victories over AIDS and cancer.

Six Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies and six LAPD officers will box against members of the Metropolitan Police Department and Central London Fire Department.

Half of the proceeds of the Thursday event will be donated to Duarte’s City of Hope Medical Center, to help doctors and medical researchers battle cancer, AIDS and other diseases, said Deputy Isaac Gonzales, who accompanied the local team to London.

An earlier boxing event matching deputies against U.S. Marines helped offset travel costs, Gonzales said.
