Kohut Finishes Fast, Second

J.T. Kohut of Simi Valley made a 15-foot putt at the 18th hole to force a playoff, but finished second when Brett Johnson of Hilton Head, S.C. made par on the first sudden-death hole Sunday at the Ping/Phoenix Junior Championship at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

It was the second runner-up finish of the year in an AJGA event for Kohut, who was second at the ClubCorp Junior Championship at Firestone Country Club in May.

Johnson and Kohut, a Westlake High senior, finished regulation at four-under-par 212.

Ryan Wyman of Valencia tied for eighth at 219.

Anne Lee of Northridge tied for fifth in the girls’ division at six-over-par 222, seven strokes behind winner Jimin Kang of Edmonds, Wash. Julie Park of Granada Hills tied for ninth at 225.

Tickets are on sale for the Pacific Bell Senior Classic, a Senior PGA Tour event at Wilshire Country Club Oct. 26-Nov. 1.

Gil Morgan is the two-time defending champion of the $1.1 million event.

Others expected to play are Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, Ray Floyd, Arnold Palmer and Chi Chi Rodriguez.

Daily tickets are $7, weekly tickets are $25 and other packages are available, including discounts for tickets bought before Oct. 16.
