‘Eyes’ to See Summer: Warner Bros. has finally announced a release date for Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut”: July 16, 1999. The Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman film, which had been expected for this Christmas, has been in production for a year and a half, and will mark Cruise’s first movie since the 1996 hit “Jerry Maguire.” Warner Bros. said Wednesday: “The film will be ready for release in early 1999, but we don’t want to go out with it until summer, when we can globally position it in the period of maximum admissions.”

Top of the Hill: Lauryn Hill’s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” continues to be the nation’s best-selling album, but the “Titanic” bandwagon is again picking up steam. Hill held onto the No. 1 spot for the second straight week by selling 265,000 copies, according to SoundScan. Meanwhile, “Back to Titanic,” the follow-up to the hugely successful “Titanic” soundtrack, jumped from seventh to second place in its second week, selling 164,000 copies. Hoopla over the home video release of “Titanic” also helped the original soundtrack rebound from No. 43 to No. 25, with sales of approximately 49,000 last week (with more than 10 million copies sold since its release last year).

Lee Out of Jail: Rocker Tommy Lee, convicted of spousal abuse for kicking wife Pamela Anderson Lee, was released from jail Saturday, getting an early release for good behavior, his attorney said Wednesday. The Motley Crue drummer, who served less than four months of a six-month sentence, will be on probation for three years. He must also complete 200 hours of community service and stay at least 100 yards away from Anderson Lee, who filed for divorce in February after reporting the assault.

Burbank Theater OK’d: The Burbank City Council voted Tuesday to award a construction contract worth $1.27 million to convert part of the Media City Shopping Center into the Burbank Performing Arts Center. Renovations may start later this month. The Colony Studio Theatre, currently in Silver Lake, will operate the new theater, which can hold up to 276 seats. The building has been empty since a branch of the county’s Natural History Museum moved out in January 1996.

“There’s Something About Mary” star Cameron Diaz will host “Saturday Night Live’s” season premiere on Sept. 26. The musical guest: Smashing Pumpkins. . . . “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” has been renewed for at least another four years, with the NBC- and ABC-owned stations that broadcast it having extended their agreements through the 2001-2002 season.
