Gioni Gives SCC Men’s Soccer Win

Diego Gioni scored midway through the second half to give Southern California College a 2-1 victory over visiting Occidental in nonconference men’s soccer Wednesday.

Gioni’s goal was assisted by Ian Hatch. Mike De Costa, with an assist by Fermin Gonzalez, scored first for SCC (1-4). Matt Sarinas had two saves for the Vanguards.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

San Diego 5, Cal State Fullerton 2--The Titans scored both their goals in the second half. Jenny Parkinson and Amy Barnes had goals for Fullerton.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

Chapman 3, Whittier 0--Erika Chaney had 14 kills and teammate Erin Dedic had 12 to lead Chapman to a 15-10, 15-13, 15-13 season-opening victory.
