Licona to Fight Tonight in Irvine
Westminster lightweight Marcos Licona will face Lakeside’s Lupe Rangel in the eight-round main event tonight at the Irvine Marriott.
Licona’s only loss as a professional came last August when he was beaten in a 10-round decision by Los Angeles’ Carlos Navarro, now a world champion. Licona (11-1-1, four knockouts) is coming off an eight-round split decision victory over Priest Smalls in Irvine. Rangel is 15-9-1 with 11 knockouts.
In the six-round semi-main event, junior middleweight Miguel Avila (5-2-2, one knockout) of Pomona will fight Jesus “Shaggy” Diaz (5-3-4, one knockout) of Coachella for the third time. Avila and Diaz split their first two bouts.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $25 and $35.
