Share

Gerold Turney of the Arboretum of Los Angeles County will address a Sept. 24 gathering of Re-Leaf Costa Mesa, a nonprofit tree-planting group.

The educational forum will address citywide beautification issues and Re-Leaf’s efforts to plant more trees. Members replace, introduce and preserve trees throughout the city.

Since the group’s inception in 1992, the goal has been to add 2,000 trees by 2000. About 1,300 have been planted, spokeswoman Kris Hagen said.

“The idea of it is to foster vision for the people of the city and see that they have to plan ahead,” she said. Trees are so important, and that’s what we keep stressing. . . . The city of Costa Mesa is really lacking in trees.”

Members of the City Council, Planning Commission, Community Services Department and tree-planting groups throughout the county have been invited to discuss beautification.

The forum begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Neighborhood Community Center, 1846 Park Ave. Reservations are not required.
