Nordhoff 7, Santa Ynez 0--Nordhoff secured the victory and shutout with two big defensive plays in the final minutes.

Santa Ynez (1-1) had its final drive end when Nordhoff safety Jesse Hawkins sacked quarterback Greg Gruendyke on fourth down at the Nordhoff 14 with 1:02 to play. Santa Ynez’s previous drive ended when Nordhoff’s Etienne Emanuel intercepted a pass at the Nordhoff 20-yard line with 3:36 left in the game.

Nordhoff (1-1) scored the only points of the game on its opening drive when quarterback Brandon Titus threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Scott Drew capping a 68-yard march.

Nordhoff linebacker Dan Carlton helped keep the shutout by blocking a 24-yard field-goal attempt by Geoff LeBeau late in the second quarter. LeBeau also missed a 35-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.
