Weinke Is On Target in Florida State Win
Chris Weinke, who had six passes intercepted in last week’s loss at North Carolina State, threw three touchdown passes and Laveranues Coles scored on a 97-yard kickoff return as No. 11 Florida State rebounded Saturday with a 62-13 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Duke.
Jeff Chaney, Travis Minor and Peter Warrick each scored two touchdowns for the Seminoles, who had scored only 30 points in their first two games.
Weinke, a sophomore making his third college start, connected with Warrick on touchdown pass plays covering 30 and 24 yards and with Minor on a 17-yard scoring throw. Weinke, who did not play in the fourth quarter, completed 11 of 19 passes for 241 yards and had no passes intercepted.
After going scoreless for more than five quarters, the Seminoles (2-1, 1-1) got 52 points in the second and third quarters.
Duke (2-1, 1-1) has lost a league-record 19 consecutive games in conference play.
